textiles & me
”I believe that textiles is a really important part of life and growing up. Its always around you. That’s a subject I’ve touched strongly on in a lot of my work. It inspires me how memories often relate back to textiles, the connection with fabrics and the smells they have and hold over time. The motion of feeling a fabric, I think its really special. That’s what I love about textiles.”
I’m a texture freak, rebuilding a fabric, starting out with a flat bland ragged scrap and turning it into something beautiful that has its own layers and fragments to it. Giving it new components so it behaves differently.
Textiles in my opinion is way a of expressing emotion too, if you have a creative mind, let it loose in your own way. I’m very drawn to expressive stitch even writing with a sewing machine.
Accidents often tend to be my best work.
I get so inspired by a mood or a vibe of a place, normally a busy city or a song I hear somewhere down a street as I walk past a cafe. It creates a sort of mood board in my head instantly. That’s why I take my camera everywhere with me as I don’t know when its going to happen. A lot of my projects have sprung from interesting places I’ve been to, lots of different cultures and different ways of life, I love capturing that.
